SOMAA Board President
·
Chair of the Executive Committee
·
Liaison to SOM Dean, Alumni RelationsAffairs Office and
senior members of the SOM Administration. Can delegate specific liaison duties
to other Board members where appropriate
·
Chairs quarterly Board meetings
·
Responsible for general leadership and maximizing
impact of SOMAA to alumni community
·
“Face” of the organization, where possible, to alumni
and future alumni (student) community, attending 2-plus on-campus events each
year (especially Orientation and Graduation)
·
Represents SOMAA on the Dean’s Board of Advisors: two meetings per year and related follow up
work
·
Appoints the president-elect with consultation of
Nominations Committee members
SOMAA Board Vice President
·
Member of the Executive Committee
·
Acts in Board President’s absence and as his/her
representative
·
In concert with Board President, responsible for
planning content and logistics of Board meetings and arranging meeting dates
four meetings in advance
SOMAA Board Treasurer
·
Member of the Executive Committee
·
Responsible for fiscal stability of SOMAA
–
prepares quarterly and annual budget reports and presents them
to the Board for review, including variance analysis
–
makes recommendations to the Board with respect to the budget,
its management, including variances, presentation and format
·
Liaison with SOM Business Office
·
Approves all expense reports
·
Responsible for dividing and assigning budget line
items to specific Committee chairs to propose and monitor
·
Responsible for delivering quarterly and annual budgets
to the Board at least one week prior to each meeting
SOMAA Board Secretary
·
Member of the Executive Committee
·
Takes minutes at Board meetings and distributes them
within one week to the full Board for review and follow-up action
·
Responsible
for drafting and circulating meeting agendas, and collecting and circulating materials prior to board meetings
·
Responsible
for tracking attendance for Board
meetings and events
·
Responsible for familiarity with organization’s by-laws
and Robert’s Rules of Order
·
Responsible for making changes to the organization’s
by-laws when approved by the Board
·
Responsible for planning and promulgating the
organization’s annual meeting
SOMAA Executive Committee
·
Comprises the President, President Elect, Vice
President, Treasurer and Secretary
·
Responsible for approving or amending Board meeting
agenda proposed by President and Vice President
·
Works to keep the Board’s work moving efficiently
between meetings. Serves as a smaller, more efficient communications vehicle to
discuss emergency or policy issues in between Board meetings, often to
determine the optimal way to approach the full Board or the school on issues as
needed
·
Responsible for assisting in the development of board members
·
Has no authority independent of the Board.
SOMAA Nominations Committee Chair
·
Responsible for Board nominations process:
–
reviews past year’s communications and making changes, if
necessary
–
acts as liaison with Alumni Affairs Office to communicate the
Nominations process with current alumni
–
reviews applications and screens candidates works with Alumni
Affairs Office to certify elections
–
welcomes new Board members
–
prepares the Board orientation package

Responsible for Nominations budget
·
Responsible for semi-annual updates to SOMAA website to
ensure that Nominations information is
correct and when new Board members are elected
SOMAA Branding & Communications Chair
·
Responsible for reviewing and annually evaluating
SOMAA’s branding and communications efforts to current and future alumni,
including
–
on-campus activities (such as SIGs and an event to coincide
with the annual Board meeting in New Haven)
–
new student welcome and graduation gifts
–
website maintenance
–
periodic alumni survey
–
participation in SOM’s quarterly e-newsletter
–
other efforts as may be appropriate

Responsible for Branding & Communications budget
·
Responsible for quarterly updates to SOMAA website, or
more as needed
SOMAA Membership
Chair (part of B& C Committee)
·
Responsible for tracking and annually increasing the
percentage of SOM alumni who pay dues to SOMAA
·
Responsible for producing the dues mailing and
conducting follow-up efforts to improve payment and retention
·
Responsible for designing and executing a strategic
plan to increase dues paying membership
SOMAA SIG Chair (part of B& C Committee)
SOMAA Club Liaison (part
of B& C Committee)
·
Responsible for knowing and suggesting any needed
changes to materials provided to Clubs about
available SOMAA funding.
·
Responsible for coordinating all Club funding
activities with Student
Affairs office
liaison, Alumni Relations office, and Student Reps to the SOMAA board.
·
Responsible for approving requests for funding
under $500, according to SOMAA guidelines,
and forwarding to Board all requests above $500 for full Board approval
·
Responsible for Club funding budget.
·
Responsible for annually (or more frequently, as
needed) updating SOMAA website as pertains to
Clubs.
·
Work with SOMAA student reps to attend sponsored
Club events when possible and speak about SOMAA.
·Responsible for knowing,
[reviewing? Reevaluating?] and SIG guidelines

requests under $500, according to SOMAA guidelines, and forwarding to Board all

SOMAA Regional Chapters Chair

Point of contact for regional chapter chairs around the
world
·
Provides leadership to create, maintain and improve the
quality of infrastructure which
supports the creation and activities of SOMAA regional chapters
·
Responsible for disseminating to regional chapters
information on infrastructure, procedures and guidelines for regional chapter
creation and events
·
Provides leadership to identify and motivate regional
leaders and initiatives to promote ever-increasing regional activity of SOMAA
·
Liaison with Alumni Affairs office to serve the
regional chapters
·
Responsible for Regional Chapters budget
·
Responsible for training and recruiting regional
chapter chairs
·
Coordinates with Treasurer, Board and regional chapters
to develop and implement efficient local dues payment mechanisms in support of
regional activities
·
Responsible for quarterly and as-needed chapter updates
to SOMAA website
SOMAA Jobs Initiative Chair
·
Take actions – including mobilizing the Board, SOM,
students, faculty and alumni which will help both students and graduates get
jobs, network professionally and experience the larger SOM community as one –
which collectively support the professional development of current and future
alumni
·
Liaison with SOM Career Development Office and others
to gauge and recommend changes in SOMAA’s initiatives, as needed
·
Responsible for Jobs Initiative budget
·
Responsible for quarterly updates to SOMAA website
SOMAA Student Liaison(s)
·
Acts as Board’s eyes and ears with student community
·
Prepares a quarterly summary to apprise the Board of
key concerns and information about current students
·
Responsible for helping out with at least one on-campus
branding activity
·
Responsible
for running mentor program and reporting results to Board at end of school year
·
Responsible for recruiting successors
